• Every situation or individual has the potential to change;
  • By working together, ensuring people who know the situation or child well are heard, we can support positive changes;
  • Psychology should be applied clearly and accessibly, ensuring that students, families and professionals can understand the processes and theories used.

Psychology Together uses a number of different psychological theories and approaches to meet the needs of the situation. Flexibility is a key part of the model. There are two key approaches that are regularly drawn upon, primarily the collaborative consultation model (working with the people who know the child best, rather than adopting an expert model). The solution-oriented approach is also fundamental to our work, with values including:

  • listen to the person; listen for possibilities;
  • the problem is the problem, not the person;
  • there are always exceptions to the problem;
  • a small change can lead to bigger changes;
  • a focus on future possibilities and solutions enhances change;
  • if it works do more of it, if not try something else.

Psychology Together believes in the importance of open and ethical working. We continually reflect on how we work, to ensure we are working at our most effective. The child is always at the centre of the work of Psychology Together.

Psychology Together believes that in every situation there is the potential for change, and that by applying psychology and working together positive change can be realised for the most difficult situations.
